Liberty of the Seas Cruise Ship First-hand Expert Review

liberty of the seas cruise

During any Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas cruise, you’ll find that the entertainment is not only high-quality, but it’s nearly everywhere, all the time. You have your primary theatrical entertainment in the huge Platinum Theatre, where there are two showings of a headliner show most evenings. Then, there’s an additional theater that runs ice skating shows (and when there’s not a show, you can actually go to the rink and get in some skating practice).

activities & shows

Liberty of the Seas is outfitted with the more traditional computer hub (on Deck 8, with more than a dozen computers available), but you probably won’t even need to visit the computer hub thanks to the onboard WiFi. Royal Caribbean boasts its own WiFi service, VOOM, which allows you to surf and stream for a set fee. Watering holes aboard Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas are plentiful, that’s for sure. Night or day, you’ll find bars and lounges serving up beers, wines and your favorite cocktails.

The Liberty Travel Experience

Liberty Travel’s cruise vacation consultants have a passion for cruises. We’ve explored the destinations and can match you with a cruise vacation consultant who has been there and visited the ports. Learn about the ship before you book, so you know what shows to see, what food to eat, and what experiences will enhance your trip. While not identical, Liberty of the Seas is fairly similar to its two sister Freedom-class cruise ships, the older Freedom of the Seas and the younger Independence of the Seas. If you’re on a cruise, chances are you don’t want to spend all your time indoors, even if there’s plenty to enjoy within Liberty of the Seas’s interior. There are plenty of sunny spots for you to enjoy and many are on Deck 11.

More Royal Caribbean

Holland America Line Cruises is committed to excellence with its Midsize 5-Star Fleet cruise ships, improved public areas and staterooms, as well as its onboard enrichment programs. Take a look at the things to love and do on Royal Caribbean's Liberty of the Seas cruise ship, a Freed-class vessel perfect for a vacation at sea. With glass staircases and bridges that cross from port to starboard lit in cool purple and blue tones, this area, which soars four decks high, comes alive with daily deal seekers and character parades. You’ll also find several bars here, perfect if you like lingering over a pre-dinner aperitif while people watching. A Central America cruise can take you eastbound or westbound across the Panama Canal.

No matter what kind of bar scene you normally enjoy (loud and raucous, relaxing and quiet), you’ll find it aboard this cruise ship. Now, families and kids enjoy a new water park feature, with a trio of waterslides called Perfect Storm, and the very popular boomerang-style slide (the first of its kind at sea) called Tidal Wave. The other slides are Cyclone and Typhoon and offer their own thrills. The separate Splashaway Bay is a water park created for smaller children and is an adult-free zone. These changes actually increased Liberty of the Seas’s gross tonnage, which gave the ship its status as the largest Freedom-class cruise ship and the 11th largest cruise ship in the world at the time. Weekends were made for wandering, and Liberty of the Seas® is your gateway to reef-roaming tropics-trekking adventures.

Most karaoke-specific venues are only found on Oasis Class ships, with others opting to have karaoke in other onboard entertainment spaces instead. This makes the On Air club on Liberty of the Seas unique—and the best place to watch karaoke onboard. This show transports guests straight to the 1970s to follow the story of Tony Manero, a Brooklynite who spends his weeknights dancing at a local nightclub.

Decks and Cabins

During drydock 2016, a total of 89 new cruise cabins were added. Among those, 26 are Panoramic ocean views (with floor-ceiling windows facing forward) on deck 12. Liberty OTS is fleet's 2nd Freedom-Class liner, with sisterships Freedom and Independence. Liberty was built in 2007 by Aker Finnyards Shipyard (Turku, Finland).

The Captain invites all guests to a formal night reception held in their honor. The boat has 15 decks, of which 14 are passenger-accessible and 8 with cabins. Matt started Royal Caribbean Blog in 2010 as a place to share his passion for all things Royal Caribbean with readers.

You don’t have to break the bank to have a great time while aboard the Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas cruise ship

Feature port destinations include Belize, Jamaica, Roatan, Grand Cayman and Cozumel Mexico. Started in 2010, Royal Caribbean Blog offers daily coverage of news and information related to the Royal Caribbean cruise line along with other relevant topics of cruising, such as entertainment, news, photo updates and more. A refurbishment in 2016 added a water slide complex, featuring two racing slides and a boomerang-style slide, and a children only water play area, featuring smaller water slides.

Or grab a seat by the grand piano at the nautical-themed Schooner Bar and raise a glass as you sing along to your favorites. Despite launching in 2007, Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas feels new and contemporary throughout most of the public areas (though the rooms are a bit worn). Cruisers on Liberty can dine in style in a rich mahogany three-story dining room, each level named in honor of an Italian Renaissance painter, with sparkling chandeliers and romantic sunset views. And there are optional specialty restaurants, as well, making for an easy date night.

This makes the complimentary saunas and steam rooms a huge benefit of sailing on Liberty of the Seas. On newer or recently amplified Royal Caribbean ships, these complimentary spa areas have been removed. On some ships this area has been removed altogether whereas on others they have built a thermal spa in its place. Vintages wine bar is where wine lists and to-do lists overlap. This is the ultimate specialty dining experience for culinary connoisseurs.

In between exploring exotic tropical shores, taste your way around the world with dining that transports you beyond the Caribbean. At Sabor Modern Mexican, you can indulge in a fiesta of fresh flavour, while Sorrento’s Pizza serves up a taste of New York by the slice. And at Chops Grille℠, savour sizzling prime meats and American steakhouse classics in a sophisticated setting. Satisfy your cravings all day — and night — at this round-the-clock fleet favorite. Grab a friend and race down The Perfect Storm℠ twin waterslides Typhoon℠ and Cyclone℠. It’s worth considering Enchantment of the Seas vs. Liberty of the Seas if you'd like an even more easy-going, quieter experience.

There’s no swim up bar available on Liberty of the Seas (the fleet’s first will come to Icon of the Seas). You can, however, order a drink at the Solarium Bar and enjoy it from the ship’s in-pool table and chairs. Deck 12 overlooks the main pool area and has lots of sun loungers.

The new staterooms include 26 new Panoramic Ocean View staterooms, with floor-to-ceiling glass walls, for views like you’ve never before enjoyed on a cruise ship. From the décor to the service, you’re in for a double shot of sophistication and nostalgia that gets stronger with every sip of your Manhattan. And if it’s wine you’re pining for, head to Vintages where you can sip your way around the world one glass at a time. During ship’s drydock 2016 refurbishment (January 10 - February 6), Royal Caribbean added a group of 3 waterslides on Deck 13 aft (near the Flowrider simulator). The Aqua Park (lido deck 11) has a new kids-only water playground area called “Splashaway Bay”. The 4000-passenger ship Liberty OTS' first drydock was in 2011.
